Gary Creager is a Colorado native who serves as Chief of Police and defacto Sheriff for the City and County of Broomfield Police Department. His 35+ years of experience includes serving as a patrol officer, traffic officer, detective, recruitment officer, and in an undercover assignment. He has extensive experience in supervising and managing units within patrol, criminal investigations, and administration. Gary has worked to improve law enforcement on a national level through his many years of experience with the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), and assisting other police department select new leaders. In addition, Gary’s experience includes police budget oversight and performance measurement, policy development, personnel selection and management, business and strategic planning, technology acquisition, temporal and geographic problem solving strategies, resource allocation, and patrol deployment.

Gary holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of Northern Colorado, a master’s degree in the administration. His professional leadership training includes the FBI National Academy, FBI Executive Leadership Program, Senior Management Institute for Police (Harvard University), and the Leadership in Police Organizations program sponsored by the International Association of Chiefs of Police. He also attended the coveted Center for Creative Leadership, which provides leadership training to Fortune 500 companies throughout the world.Gary joined the Broomfield Police Department in December 2014 as the Chief of Police. He is committed to building the police department’s community policing efforts, moving the organization towards a data-driven model, and preparing the department to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
